A west coast trough deepened and lied offshore on Monday suppressing sea breezes except over coastal areas. The hot air mass over the region with the west coast trough led to maximum temperatures of 35.9 Degrees Celsius at Perth Metro site.

Hot conditions again today before the west coast trough moves inland easing temperatures a little but increasing humidity as the marine layer advects inland.

The chance of showers and thunderstorms inland of the sea breeze front during the afternoon and evening, most likely over the north and east with relatively steep vertical lapse rates.Nevertheless there will be plenty of convective clouds contracting towards the hills later during the afternoon as the marine layer penetrates inland.

A strong somewhat easterly pressure gradient reestablishes over the region again from next weekend.Though plenty of uncertainty on how hot the air mass will be with plenty of variation between ensemble members and models.

We had the first summer without a 40+ Degree day at the Perth metro station since the summer of 2001-2002.
