Explanatory notes:

Elevated convection has developed with instability aloft ahead of an upper level trough, contracting away in the afternoon. Then generally fine conditions with afternoon sea breezes over the next few days with the subtropical high pressure ridge to the south.

An unusually intense heatwave is likely to develop from Friday and through the Christmas period with the longest December 40+°C spell on record likely with a very hot air mass over the region as the west coast trough deepens offshore, also suppressing the sea breeze. Temperatures could even be hotter than currently forecast as the current forecast is a little conservative taking into account uncertainty this far out. Perth's longest December 40+°C spell on record was 3 consecutive days in December 2019. Prior to December 2019, 3 consecutive 40+°C days was underheard of in December.
