Explanatory notes:

Easterly gradient strengthens today confining the sea breeze near the coast as a southerly, if it develops.

The strong easterly gradient combined with the katabatic effect leads to strengthening east-southearlies from tonight with gusts in excess of 80 km/h possible over the hills and foothills from later tonight until Tuesday morning, winds easing slightly by late morning as the land heats up, with increased vertical mixing, strong gusts again likely over the hills and foothills on Tuesday night once vertical mixing decreases, continuing until early on Wednesday

The sea breeze will likely be suppressed on Tuesday and Wednesday with the west coast trough offshore, becoming very hot with hot air advection as the west coast trough deepens offshore.

Wednesday could be even hotter than currently forecast if skies are sufficiently clear. Currently the slight possibility of elevated convection, most likely during the early hours and morning ahead of an upper level trough.

The west coast trough likely moves inland on Thursday bringing cooler but humid conditions as the marine layer advects onshore. Maximum temperatures depend on how early the west coast trough moves inland.

The slight possibility of showers in the onshore flow on Friday and Saturday with a low pressure system to the south of the state.
