7 day weather forecast

Effective as of 4:00 PM Wednesday May 5 2021

Explanatory notes:

Perth Airport experienced the wettest May (climatological) day in 58 years that is since May 25 1963 where 55.4 mm of rain fell and the 3rd wettest on record just shy of the record of 57.4 mm set on May 3 1947 as 53.8 mm fell in the 24 hours to 9 AM this morning.

Most of the rain fell in areas of heavy rain stalling over the airport and some areas in a rain band ahead of an upper level disturbance fed by tropical moisture.

A shower or two possible in the moist onshore flow for the rest of today. A band of low level wind convergence near the coast acts as a focus for shower activity overnight.

On Thursday a surface trough ahead of an upper level trough bring showers with possible thunderstorms.
After the trough moves to the east, some showers streaming from the southwest until Friday morning in the moist cool air mass.
Ridge of high pressure builds to the south thereafter leading to fine conditions.

The slight chance of fog early on Saturday and Sunday with light winds radiational cooling of moist air, also the slight chance early on Friday if skies are sufficiently clear and winds are sufficiently light given moist low level air and moist soils from earlier showers.

Warmer afternoons early next week with warm air advection as the high moves into the Great Australian Bight.
